Thursday Thought: Anything, Not Everything

Today, yesterday, and tomorrow words on blackboard, Time concept.

If you’re like me, then you probably have your hand in just about anything and everything imaginable. So many different things fascinate me, and I love the thought that I can do whatever I set my mind to. However, I’m less keen about the reality that I don’t have time to do everything my heart desires. It’s taken me a really long time to come to grips with this, and really, I’m still working on it.

So what’s so bad about wanting to do everything? Well, it can cause a few problems, one of which is best described by this phrase, “Jack of all trades but master of few.” When we spread ourselves too thin and try to do everything, we end up knowing a ton about a lot of different things, but we’re not experts at anything in particular.

I’ll talk more about why it’s important to be an expert another time, but my question today is what do you really want? Knowing that there are only so many hours in the day, so many days in the week, and so many weeks in the year, what are your priorities? Because really, you can do ANYTHING you want, you just can’t do everything.
